About Me

Perapong Viriya (b.2001) is a Thai composer, conductor, and saxophonist whose music reflects a deep passion for storytelling through sound. He was awarded in Thai Composer of Our Century, and his works have since been performed by distinguished ensembles including the Million Wind Philharmonic, Hamonious Musikavier, Suranaree Girls School Bands, Nontri Orchestra Wind, and the Mahidol University Tuba Euphonium Studio. Beyond Thailand, his compositions have been featured internationally, reaching audiences in multiple countries and cultural settings.

Perapong began his musical journey at the age of ten, when he first discovered his love for both performance and composition. Fascinated by the rich sonorities of wind ensembles, orchestras, and concert bands, he quickly developed an interest in creating music of his own. What started as a youthful curiosity grew into a lifelong pursuit of composition, where he could capture the essence of his thoughts, emotions, and experiences through musical form.

His compositional voice is shaped by a wide spectrum of influences. He draws inspiration from Classical and Romantic traditions, the harmonic languages of the late 20th century, and the colors of Jazz and Blues. What distinguishes his music, however, is the way he integrates these traditions with elements of Thai musical heritage, bridging cultural worlds to create a contemporary sound that is both personal and universal. This synthesis of East and West reflects not only his artistic curiosity but also his belief that music can serve as a bridge between different identities and perspectives.

Perapong’s works are often inspired by his travels, the places he encounters, and the stories embedded in everyday life. He transforms memories, emotions, and landscapes into musical narratives, allowing listeners to experience his perspective through sound. For him, composition is more than technique—it is a way of sharing his inner world, inviting performers and audiences to feel the same resonance he experienced when writing. He hopes that, through his music, people will come to know him as an individual, not only as a composer. “If my music can truly tell my story,” he often reflects, “then that would mean more to me than any award or recognition.”

Now in the fourth year of his undergraduate studies at the College of Music, Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University, Perapong continues to refine his craft both as a composer and performer. His commitment to composition is matched by his dedication as a conductor and saxophonist, where he finds yet another perspective on how music is created, interpreted, and shared. Each role he takes—whether writing, conducting, or performing—shapes the others, forming a holistic musical identity.

With every piece he writes, Perapong views himself as taking one more step on a lifelong journey. Though still at the beginning of his career, he sees his work not just as compositions, but as reflections of his growth, his heritage, and his aspirations. His vision is to create music that transcends borders, resonates with diverse audiences, and leaves behind a voice that is unmistakably his own.
