This composition was inspired by The Starry Night — the iconic 1889 painting by Vincent van Gogh.
Van Gogh created this masterpiece during his stay at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum, shortly after the incident in which he cut off his left ear. The painting is believed to portray the view from his room window at the asylum.
During his time there, Van Gogh painted over twenty works, capturing the passage of time, shifting light, and contrasting moods of day and night. Among them, The Starry Night stands out for its mesmerizing motion and emotional depth.
Painted with oil on canvas, Van Gogh applied colors directly from the tube, creating swirling textures and a luminous, dreamlike atmosphere. The sky, alive with spiraling energy, seems to move and breathe, while the quiet village below rests in stillness.
A dark cypress tree rises on the left, connecting heaven and earth—often interpreted as a symbol of death or spiritual transcendence.
At that time, Van Gogh’s mental state was fragile, filled with turmoil and confusion. Yet, within that chaos, he discovered profound beauty and vision.
In my composition, I sought to reflect this duality: the struggle between inner turbulence and transcendent peace.
The piece employs layers of rhythm that overlap, collide, and coexist—mirroring the swirling brushstrokes of the painting. Intentional dissonance, rhythmic counterpoint, and contrasting textures serve as musical metaphors for Van Gogh’s emotional world.
I chose the percussion ensemble as the medium for its ability to express raw, elemental energy—where rhythm itself becomes color, and motion becomes sound.

ในช่วงเวลาที่แวน โก๊ะสร้างผลงานนี้ สภาพจิตใจของเขาเต็มไปด้วยความสับสน วุ่นวาย และเจ็บปวด แต่ในความสับสนวุ่นวายนั้น เขากลับค้นพบความงดงามและพลังในการสร้างสรรค์
ผู้ประพันธ์จึงต้องการถ่ายทอด “ความงามในความสับสน” นั้นให้ออกมาในรูปแบบดนตรี
บทเพลงนี้ใช้เทคนิคการซ้อนชั้นของจังหวะ (layered rhythm) ที่เคลื่อนไหวสวนทางกัน เกิดเป็นความไม่ลงรอยอย่างจงใจ (intentional dissonance) ซึ่งสะท้อนพลังการหมุนวนในภาพวาด การปะทะของจังหวะและเสียงในบทเพลงนี้ จึงเปรียบเสมือนพู่กันที่แวน โก๊ะใช้แต่งแต้มอารมณ์ของตนเองบนผืนผ้าใบ
ผู้ประพันธ์เลือกใช้ วงเครื่องเคาะ (Percussion Ensemble) เป็นสื่อกลาง เพราะเครื่องเคาะสามารถถ่ายทอดพลัง ความขัดแย้ง และความงามในจังหวะได้อย่างเป็นธรรมชาติ — ราวกับสี เส้น และการเคลื่อนไหวในภาพ The Starry Night ที่กลายเป็น “เสียงดนตรี” แห่งอารมณ์ของศิลปิน
